Tue Jun 2 – Arrival in Bozeman / Drive to West Yellowstone Area

Plan

  • Arrive in Bozeman.
  • Pick up both rental vehicles.
  • Do grocery shopping.
  • Drive to the West Yellowstone / Island Park lodging area.

  1. Enter Yellowstone through the West Entrance as early as practical.
  2. Drive to Norris Geyser Basin.
  3. Do Porcelain Basin first.
  4. Add part of Back Basin.
  5. Stop at Artists Paintpots.
  6. Stop at Gibbon Falls.
  7. Optional: Madison area for picnic / river stop / wildlife watching.
  8. Optional add-on if time and parking are good: Fountain Paint Pot.

Thu Jun 4 – Old Faithful, Upper Geyser Basin & Grand Prismatic

  1. Drive early to the Old Faithful area.
  2. Watch Old Faithful erupt.
  3. Visit the Old Faithful Inn lobby/mezzanine.
  4. Walk part of the Upper Geyser Basin boardwalk.
  5. Minimum walk: Geyser Hill area.
  6. Longer option: continue farther toward Morning Glory Pool.
  7. Stop at Black Sand Basin if parking is reasonable.
  8. In the afternoon, do Grand Prismatic Spring:
    • Option A: Grand Prismatic Overlook from Fairy Falls trailhead.
    • Option B: Midway Geyser Basin boardwalk if people are tired or if steam blocks the overlook view.

Hike Notes

  • The full Fairy Falls hike is optional.

Skip / Keep Optional

  • Skip Biscuit Basin / Mystic Falls unless the area is clearly open and the group really wants more hiking. Yellowstone currently lists temporary closures near Biscuit Basin, so this should not be a core plan.

Fri Jun 5 – Yellowstone Lake, West Thumb, Storm Point / Natural Bridge & Hayden Valley

  1. Drive early toward the Yellowstone Lake area.
  2. Visit West Thumb Geyser Basin.
  3. Stop at Lake Butte Overlook if weather and timing are good.
  4. Choose one moderate hike:
    • Storm Point Trail, if open.
    • Natural Bridge Trail, if Storm Point is closed or the group prefers a simpler option.
  5. Picnic lunch near Fishing Bridge / Lake area.
  6. Drive through Hayden Valley for wildlife viewing.
  7. If time and energy remain, add one Canyon stop such as Artist Point or Brink of Upper Falls.

Important Notes

  • Storm Point is a moderate loop, but it is often closed in late spring / early summer due to bear activity, so check with Fishing Bridge Visitor Center before hiking.
  • Yellowstone Lake boat tours from Bridge Bay are not expected to be available on this date because 2026 Yellowstone Lake Scenicruise operations begin June 12.

  • Do not try to do West Thumb, Storm Point, Natural Bridge, boat tour, Hayden Valley, and full Canyon viewpoints all in one day.

Sat Jun 6 – Firehole Area

  1. If not done earlier, do Grand Prismatic Overlook.
  2. If not done earlier, walk the Midway Geyser Basin boardwalk.
  3. Drive Firehole Lake Drive if open.
  4. Visit Fountain Paint Pot if not done earlier.
  5. Stop at Firehole Falls / Firehole Canyon Drive if open.

Optional Add-On

  • Fairy Falls hike.

Sun Jun 7 – Move to Gardiner / Emigrant via Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone

  1. Check out early from West Yellowstone / Island Park lodging.
  2. Drive toward the Canyon area.
  3. Prioritize the best Canyon viewpoints:
    • Artist Point
    • Upper Falls Viewpoint
    • Brink of Upper Falls
    • Lookout Point or Grand View
  4. If not done earlier, add Mud Volcano / Dragon’s Mouth / Sulphur Cauldron.
  5. Drive toward Mammoth / Gardiner / Emigrant lodging area.

  • Do not try to do every Canyon viewpoint on both rims.

Mon Jun 8 – Lamar Valley, Mammoth Hot Springs & Roosevelt Arch

  1. Start very early and drive to Lamar Valley for wildlife viewing.
  2. Bring binoculars and scopes if available.
  3. Return toward Mammoth with short stops as time allows.

Optional Easy Hike

  • Heron Pond – Swan Lake Loop from Colter Bay.

  • Skip Taggart / Bradley Lake today.
  • Skip major Jenny Lake hiking today.

Wed Jun 10 – Grand Teton Scenic Drive, Colter Bay / Signal Mountain & Jackson

  1. Start with early photo stops:
    • Mormon Row
    • Snake River Overlook
  2. Drive up Signal Mountain Summit Road if open.

  4. Do Colter Bay Lakeshore or Heron Pond – Swan Lake Loop if the group wants an easy/moderate walk.
  5. Late afternoon / evening in Jackson Town Square.

Optional Paid Activity

  • A Snake River scenic float.

Important 2026 Note

  • Grand Teton has several 2026 construction projects, especially around the south end of the park. Moose-Wilson Road, Death Canyon Road, Taggart Lake Trail, and Mormon Row may have closures, detours, or delays, so this day should remain flexible.

Thu Jun 11 – Jenny Lake, Hidden Falls & Inspiration Point

  1. Leave Victor very early.
  2. Arrive at Jenny Lake early to find parking.
  3. Take the Jenny Lake shuttle boat across the lake.
  4. Hike to Hidden Falls.
  5. Optional continuation with a steeper trail: Inspiration Point.
  6. Meet back at the boat dock at a fixed time.
  7. Optional late afternoon:
    • Chapel of the Transfiguration
    • Menor’s Ferry Historic District
    • Easy lakeshore time.

Notes

  • The west side has no restrooms, so use the facilities near Jenny Lake Visitor Center before taking the boat.
  • Optional extra hiking: deep into Cascade Canyon

Fri Jun 12 – Victor to Bozeman Transfer Day

  1. Check out from Victor.
  2. Drive toward Bozeman.
  3. Optional short stops depending on route and energy:
    • Jackson, if not already explored.
    • Scenic stops along the drive.
    • Big Sky area, if weather and timing work.
  4. Arrive in Bozeman and check in.

Strong Recommendation

  • Skip Beartooth Highway / Red Lodge / Cody on this day. Large detour.

Sat Jun 13 – Bozeman Departure Day

Recommended Plan

  1. If flight times allow, visit Museum of the Rockies.
  2. Return rental vehicles.
  3. Fly home.

Notes

  • Museum of the Rockies is a good final-day choice because it is weather-proof, low-effort, and close to Bozeman.

Top Priority Experiences

  2. Grand Prismatic Spring Overlook
  3. Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone – Artist Point and falls viewpoints
  4. Lamar Valley early morning wildlife drive
